Erdogan’s critics say demand for expulsions is distraction from economy woes | Reuters
Turkish Erdogan’s decision to expel 10 ambassadors would also mean alienating:
• 10 OECD members
• 7 NATO allies
• 6 EU counterparts
• 5 key trading partners
• 4 G-7 powers
• 2 UNSC veto-power states
• 1 paramount defense ally— Soner Cagaptay (@SonerCagaptay) October 23, 2021

#Erdoğan’s expulsion of 10 ambassadors could be the prelude to #Turkey’s impending break with the Council of Europe, as the 47-member union is about to begin infringement proceedings against #Ankara. This would be the final nail in the coffin of Turkey’s pro-Western orientation.

When the Syrian crisis began, Turkey switched from largely helping refugees through private charity to carrying out a massive state-led mobilisation to help. It now looks like that is being gradually put in reverse https://t.co/Myqu4RYKaP

Congrats @internetarchive ! The Internet Archive Turns 25
In Uncategorized on October 29, 2021 at 19:34The Internet Archive’s 25th Anniversary celebration “From Wayback to Way Forward: The Internet Archive Turns 25” featured a rock star, a future star, and insights from the “Father of the Internet.” There were forward-looking talks by science fiction author, Cory Doctorow, and an announcement that the Wayback Machine has archived 1.0 trillion web captures. But in the end, what’s the key to any great celebration?
An amazing cake.
We had one of those too. If you missed the party or want to relive it, here’s how to join the fun

Facebook has had many bad days and months, and the company is currently facing yet another public disgrace. Everyone’s talking about the Facebook Papers, and we’re here to summarize them for you, so you don’t have to spend days of your life reading them. Let’s dive right into them. As #BilgiMedya department, we have contributed to UNESCO’s Global Media and Information Literacy Week (#GlobalMILWeek)
In Uncategorized on October 28, 2021 at 18:29It is Republic Day tomorrow and today is also a national holiday. I took the opportunity to work on my own stuff. I have several writing pieces to finish up by 1 November. I have a relatively heavy workload this semester and every holiday helps, not for rest but channelizing the work-energy (!)
I am proud to have organized a series of events for UNESCO’s Global Media and Information Literacy Week with my colleagues from the department but also from the other universities and civic initiatives. It was tiring but it was worth it. All events were in Turkish but I have entered the titles in English here.
Three events were broadcast through our School’s Youtube channel and the others from SosyalKafa
