They are not in my immediate research interests, but I enjoyed and benefitted from reading them:

Critiques of Everyday Life: An Introduction

A very informative summary of major schools of thought and thinkers on the everyday life.

Before Orthodoxy: The Satanic Verses in Early Islam

One of the most informative pieces on the issue of the satanic verses.

I am proud to be part of the STS Turkey platform. This year, I, as Bilgi University, was the host of our annual conference. Thus, I was a bit more stressed than usual. Still, I now happily enjoy the post-conference rest. The conference program can be found here. Unfortunately, the whole program was in Turkish. We have hopes to make it international, but it depends on grants, of course. Our other annual event is the Winter School which takes place in early February. Around 20 grad students are chosen for the free introductory courses.

I am totally immersed in departmental bureaucracy (curriculum etc) and a piece on metaverse and journalism. In the meantime, I missed some significant events in Turkey. I am getting lazy for the blog 🙁  Here is something to be anxious about:

Social media restrictions after the Istanbul Taksim explosion

There are at least six killed. Most locals I know do not hang out in Taksim recently, so I assume there might be many wounded tourists… Many citizens are anxious as this triggers violent days back in 2015 Summer…

Live updates: At least six killed, 81 injured in explosion on İstanbul’s İstiklal Avenue

The explosion in Taksim could be a suspected act of “terrorism,” President Erdoğan has said. Media outlets face restrictions, including a broadcast ban, bandwith restriction on social media and reporters not allowed on the avenue.

An explosion on Istanbul’s popular pedestrian thoroughfare İstiklal Avenue has left at least six people dead and 53 others injured, Turkey’s president, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, has said. Istanbul’s governor, Ali Yerlikaya, tweeted to say the explosion happened at 4.20pm local time. CCTV footage released on social media shows the moment of the explosion, suggesting the blast originated from a backpack left on a bench

A few days in Morocco

I and Hakan, my brother, went on a trip to Morocco last week. This was our sixth bro trip.

In 4 days we visited Casablanca and Marrakesh. Despite receiving so many tourists, Morocco does not seem to be very tourist friendly. Despite the goodies, we rated as the most unimpressive trip we had. Still, if you are into arts and architecture and some exotic experiences, why not? Skip Casablanca and focus on Morocco and other cities- if you could survive the constant hustling…

While I was away, the Turkish republic celebrated its 99th anniversary

Istanbul municipality does not use fireworks anymore. It looks beautiful but is not good for the birds at least. However, the Ministry of Culture was at work on fireworks, and these are the images as citizens celebrated the anniversary. More and more citizens are aware of the benefits the secular Republic provide us.
