MED 512 – Issues in Cyberculture Studies is a new course to be first offered in Spring 2010. I am very excited about this course since it also represents the new scholarly interest I have at the moment. Issues in Cyber-Culture Studies
This course focuses on particular theoretical topics that emerge in the ever-growing literature on cyber cultures. Special emphasis is given the notion of Collective Intelligence developed by philosopher Bernard-Henri Lévy and later by media scholar Henry Jenkins. Theoretical discussions are supported by case studies from the Social Media experiences both in Turkey and more global contexts. In doing so, the course later focuses on virtual methods that are relevant to make these discussions intelligable. This latter part of the course emphasizes methodological issues such as researching online relationships, designing internet behaviour research, online interviewing and research relationship, ethnographic presence in a cyber settings, and web sphere analysis.

Siber-Kültür Çalışmalarına Giriş
Bu ders, giderek büyüyen siber kültür literatüründe beliren belli teorik başlıklar üzerinde yoğunlaşır. Filozof Bernard-Henri Lévy tarafından geliştirilen ve daha sonra Henry Jenkins tarafından medya çalışmalarına adapte edilen “Kolektif Akıl (collective intelligence)” kavramına özel önem verilir. Teorik tartışmalar Türkiye ve dünyadan Sosyal Medya deneyimlerinin incelenmesiyle desteklenir. Bu tartışma ve inceleme sürecinde ilişkili metodik tartışmalar da gündeme gelir. Dersin ikinci kısmı özellikle gündeme gelen “sanal metod”ların tartışılmasına ayrılır: Bu  bağlamda, online ilişkilerin araştırılması, internet davranış araştırmalarının dizaynı, çevrimiçi röportaj ve araştırma ilişkileri, siber bağlamda etnografik varlık, web alanı analizleri özellikle gündeme gelecektir.
