Cyberculture agenda: “The Crypto Wars Have Gone Global

In Uncategorized on July 31, 2015 at 12:13

Recently, Congress heard testimony about whether or not backdoors should be introduced into encryption technologies, a technically problematic proposal that would fundamentally weaken the security of the Internet, according to a recent report written by eleven of the world’s leading cryptographers. But while Congress is reliving these debates from the nineties (we hear they’re in these days), the Crypto Wars are very much alive and well in other parts of the world.

The White House on Tuesday ended two years of ignoring a hugely popular petition calling for NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden to be “immediately issued a full, free, and absolute pardon,” saying thanks for signing, but no.

In the three years since the previous report, New York City (where TNW has a conference coming up!) has overtaken Tel Aviv in the rankings to become the second most significant startup ecosystem in the world, behind (of course) Silicon Valley. Austin, Bangalore, Singapore, and Chicago all saw gains in the new ranking table, while Vancouver, Toronto, Sydney, Tel Aviv and Seattle fell. Santiago, Melbourne and Waterloo, meanwhile, dropped out of the top 20 completely.

The gov’t’s refusal to provide legal guarantees for the PKK’s withdrawal, coupled with the construction of military fortresses, effectively ended the cease-fire, HDP co-chair says

At the request of Ankara Nato members will meet today, Tuesday, to discuss Turkey’s conflicts with the IS and the PKK. The main question will be whether and how the alliance partners can provide support. Commentators warn that Ankara must not be allowed to treat the Kurds and the IS equally as enemies but doubt that the Nato partners will give this much consideration.

The Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) submitted a parliamentary motion on July 30 for an inquiry into the discretionary fund provided to President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
A total of 190 militants have been killed in two major airstrikes by the Turkish military targeting the outlawed Kurdistan Workers Party’s (PKK) bases both inside Turkey and northern Iraq, intelligence sources told daily Hürriyet. 30 F-16s reportedly bombed PKK camps again on July 30.
An ‘Isis-free zone’ is nothing but a road to US mission creep | Emma Ashford

The US’ involvement in Syria displays no strategy, no boundaries and no clear goals. The only viable long-term solution to Syria’s problems is diplomacy

The US war against Isis is being fought on autopilot, with little thought given to whether our actions will hurt or help American interests in the long-run. This weeks’ agreement between the United States and Turkey to create an ill-defined “Isis-free zone” in the north of Syria is just the latest example of this problem. Not only will it fail to reconcile the vastly different goals sought by America and its allies, it also risks mission creep, increasing US involvement in the Syrian conflict with little chance of success.

The change in Turkey’s attitude in the war on ISIL is motivated by deeply complex international and domestic issues.

Tarihten Bir Yaprak: Londra Siyah-Beyaz…

Fotoğrafının çekilmesinden her zaman hoşlanırdı.” diyor.

5 Temmuz 2015 tarihinde İtalya yazılım şirketi Hacking Team’in kirli  dosyaları
