I do not actually oppose dear Akın Ünver’s arguments. I just think that the title of the piece may be misleading. The sheer number of Twitter followers of Russian media outlets is not enough to win the information war.  As Ünver says domestic and predominantly state-based disinformation is so powerful that there is no need for the Russians. Besides, Russians can operate easily because Turkish policy elites are very pro-Russian in recent years and they allow Russians operate in Turkey easily. Pro-democratic opponents on social media are quite aware of Russian media who are aligned with authoritarian regimes. It is a war of maneuvers. Both use each other contextually…

Despite ruling party’s provocations, Turkish opposition remains calm, maintains the moral superiority…

Many people are anxious that those evil men- you know who they are- maybe planning some post-election provocations. Some already started. However, collective intelligence is at work for the opposition. So far, elements of Turkey’s opposition mostly kept its calm and continue to celebrate local election victories. It is a rough road and evil authorities don’t give up easily but they have exhausted their arsenal of tactics. This is of course partially wishful thinking in my behalf but there seem to be good signs.
