An aid campaign has been launched by the Ukrainian Embassy in Ankara after Russia’s attack on the country and a total of $10,800, along with 900,000 Turkish Liras, were collected as of late Feb. 26, a statement from the embassy said.

As Russia’s military escalation in and around Ukraine continues apace, a number of questionable videos and claims have appeared on social media and in Russian state media outlets. All appear to suggest Ukrainian agression near the country’s border with Russia and two self-declared republics (occupied regions controversially recognised by Russia earlier this week) in the east of the country.

The government of Ukraine is asking for volunteers from the country’s hacker underground to help protect critical infrastructure and conduct cyber spying missions against Russian troops, according two people involved in the project.

As Russian forces attacked cities across Ukraine, requests for volunteers began to appear on hacker forums on Thursday morning, as many residents fled the capital Kyiv.

“Ukrainian cybercommunity! It’s time to get involved in the cyber defense of our country,” the post read, asking hackers and cybersecurity experts to submit an application via Google docs, listing their specialties, such as malware development, and professional references.

Which government censors the tech giants the most?

In 2009, Google started recording the number of content removal requests it received from courts and government agencies all over the world, disclosing the figures on a six-month basis. Soon after, several other companies followed suit, including Twitter, Facebook, Microsoft, and Wikimedia.

This year, we’ve extended our study of the above to include Pinterest, Dropbox, Reddit, LinkedIn, TikTok, and Tumblr. Our study looks at the number of content removal requests by platform, which countries have the highest rates of content removal per 100,000 internet users, and how things have changed on a year-by-year basis.

What did we find?

On the French versions of Google, its sister platform YouTube, and Facebook, users were being asked to consent to cookies in such a way that it was much easier for them to accept than reject the request. They could accept cookies with just one click but there was a more laborious process for refusing. Google owner Alphabet was fined €150 million (£125 million) and Facebook owner…

Some moves in the Turkish opposition

In Uncategorized on February 18, 2022 at 10:59

Worker’s Party of Labor organized a meeting in which delegates from all over Turkey attended. It has the potential to mobilize some younger citizens. I believe their energy is good for the Turkish opposition. I have many reservations and I do not believe they can not get more than 1% but they are providing legitimacy for critical rhetorics.

This is a show of force. Major opposition parties met to unite forces. Two of them are derived from AKP. Many in the opposition criticised this meeting on Twitter because it lacked a critical party: pro-Kurdish HDP. I am not critical, yes, it is definitely upsetting but in the current political context, nationalist opposition cannot handle their own grassroots voters critics that may get angry with cooperating with HDP. The latter also know that. Political alliances are sensitive. I do not find this union very radical but that’s why they may succeed to challenge AKP.

The leaders of the main opposition CHP, İYİ Party, Future Party, DEVA Party, Felicity Party and Democrat Party have released a written statement following their meeting, defining their gathering as “a historic day for Turkey.”

HDP Co-Chair Buldan: We know well how to ignore the ones who ignore us
