The Turkey Blocks monitoring network has detected throttling of Twitter and YouTube affecting many internet users in Turkey. The restrictions were first observed with fixed mobile operator Uydunet/Turksat and mobile providers Turkcell and Vodafone.

 

The website of Dutch public broadcaster NOS is unreachable for most internet users in Turkey. The restriction has been in place since shortly after the imposition of a national broadcast ban and social media shutdown following the assassination of Russian ambassador Karlov in Ankara.

Turkey’s Education Ministry has suspended 1,980 civil servants – including teachers – over suspicions they are linked to the movement of U.S.-based Islamic preacher Fethullah Gülen, state-run Anadolu Agency reported Dec. 21.
Police in the western province of Uşak on Dec. 22 have detained a total of eight suspects, including the rector of Uşak University Professor Sait Çelik, as a part of an ongoing investigation into the July 15 failed coup attempt, believed to have been orchestrated by the Gülen movement, state-run Anadolu Agency has reported.
