In the last couple of days, PKK attacked police headquarters in Kurdish populated towns. Diyarbakır, Van and today Bitlis and Elazığ. Pro-AKP columnists are quick to explain rising number of attacks with conspiracy theories- as usual: One line of ideas is that, now that coup attempt failed, another plot against Turkey by imperial forces by using Kurdish guerrillas on the play. Well, I am sure there are some behind-the-doors plots. It is the game of international relations. But explaining anything with conspiracy theories is a dangerous logical fallacy. Turkish suffers so hard after the coup attempt that there is a very clear security problem in Turkey in general. PKK has an unexpected opportunity to step up attacks. Novelist Aslı Erdoğan Detained

Özgür Gündem daily Publishing Consultancy Board member and novelist Aslı Erdoğan’s home was raided last night, Erdoğan detained.
A ranger has lost his life in the armed conflicts that occurred in Hizan district of Bitlis province and an improvised explosive device paved on the road has been detonated while a military vehicle dispatched to the region was driving by. Three soldiers have lost their lives in the explosion.
The US Department of State has made a statement about the closure of Özgür Gündem: “We are always concerned, and we’ve been very clear about that, whenever we see an independent media outlet shut down.”

Being Trans* in Turkey

The Kırmızı Şemsiye’s (Red Umbrella’s) database processed a total of 267 cases of rights violations directed at trans people in the last year. 98% of trans people say they have experienced discrimination during the hiring process, and 68% while seeking medical treatment.
More than 40,000 people have been detained and nearly 20,000 have been arrested since the failed July 15 coup attempt, believed to have been masterminded by the Fethullahist Terrorist Organization (FETÖ), Prime Minister Binalı Yıldırım has said
