Turkish Science Fiction in Translation

A commenter on this blog asked whether any Turkish science fiction was available in English. I put that question to the successful fantasy writer Barış Müstecaplıoğlu, whose work has been translated into several languages, including Chinese. He told me that in the scifi genre Levent Şenyürek’s The Book of Madness was available in English (Turkish title Çıldırtan Kitap). Booklist called it “excellent, intelligent entertainment”.

Ouf ! On est rassuré. La très populaire série Muhteşem Yüzyıl (le Siècle Magnifique)  a beau avoir été “censurée” par la Turkish Airline, au motif qu’elle donnerait une image insuffisamment glorieuse du sultan Soliman le Magnifique - en  fait sans doute  surtout car elle ne convient pas à l’image que Recep Tayyip Erdogan le chef de gouvernement s’en fait – un procureur d’Istanbul a décidé qu’il n’y avait pas “insulte contre le Sultan”.
